The Ottawa West Golden Knights were back at it, against the Casselman Vikings, on Monday night, at the Barbara Ann Scott Arena. It was a crazy entertaining game, and the Golden Knights got a 5-2 win.
The Vikings unfortunately got the first one, but the Knights responded quickly with a goal from Will McCulligh, on the power play.
The score remained tied at the end of the period, but the Golden Knights popped off in the second.
No penalty could keep the Knights down, as the boys got back-to-back shorthanded goals, from Thomas Dickey, and McCulligh, just seconds apart.
When the second period came to an end, it was 3-2 for the Golden Knights.
The third was when the boys really sealed the deal on the win. Max Shewfelt got his first as a Golden Knight, to insure the two goal lead.
Carter Overhoff was in net, and made 25 saves, to help hold the Knights’ lead. He especially stood out when the Vikings pulled their goalie to play six on five, making sure the boys kept their two goal lead.
“The save at the end of the game there was big,” Overhoff said. “It was 4-2, and if I don’t make that save it’s 4-3. Definitely changed the game, there. Then, we scored an empty-netter right after that.”
The defense stayed strong too, helping out whenever they could.
“Oh, they were all out, just blocking shots all night,” Overhoff said. “Getting rid of screens. The block shots definitely helped.”
McCulligh got the goal on the empty net, to give himself yet another hat trick, and bring the game to an end at 5-2.
It was a big game, and a milestone for Justin Murdoch and McCulligh, as they both got their 100th point.
The game on Thursday, which was supposed to be against the Glengarry Brigade, was postponed due to the weather. The rescheduled date is set for January 25th @ 3pm at the Bernard Grandmaître Arena in Vanier, due to unavailable ice at the Barb.
Friday, the Golden Knights were right back at it, playing at the Embrun Arena, against the Panthers. The boys took the game 3-2, in overtime.
The Knights had goals from Noah Jones and Jason Ward in regulation. Dickey nailed the OT winner, with a nasty assist from Antonio Zito.
Dustin Riff was clutch in net, standing on his head, and making 26 saves.
The week was full of two big wins, which were great games, and point milestones for the Ottawa West Golden Knights. It was an awesome week.
