Weekly Recap | Ottawa West has now won nine consecutive games with wins against Embrun and Alexandria

Ottawa, Ontario – The Ottawa West Golden Knights improve to 15-3-1 with a win over the Embrun Panthers 3-1 on Thursday night and got a win on the road against the Alexandria Glens 4-1 on Friday night to extend their winning streak to nine games.

Ottawa West 3, Embrun 1

The Golden Knights didn’t get off to a great start to the game in the first period as Embrun really pushed the past very early in this games which forced Brent-Pledge-Dickson making 20 saves in that frame. The scoring would start from Bobby Dempster after Michael Gallivan pass was intended to Stef Mellios, which his stick was lifted and Dempster would one time the puck over the right shoulder of William Nguyen.

Ottawa West’s power play would play into a factor in this game. Jared Brush would extend the Golden Knights lead to 2-0. Brush get his 3rd of the year which turned out to be the game winner.

“I kinda snuck in there on the power play. Goulet shot the puck, it went off the boards and I just put under the goalies arm,” said Jared Brush on the Golden Knights second goal.

Sean Kearns would get more ensurance coming on the power play in the first minute of the third period. That gave Ottawa West a 3-0 lead. The power play for Ottawa West has proven that they are #1 in the league on the man advantage by going 2-for-5.

“We just stick to our game plan, get pucks in and we score off those,” said Brush on the man advantage.

Pledge-Dickson’s shutout would come short with 1:25 left in the third after Nathan Brown got his first goal of the season for Embrun. Pledge-Dickson made 36 saves for his 7th win this season. Shots were 40-37 in favour of the Golden Knights.

Ottawa West 4, Alexandria 1

Ottawa West would able to get their 4th straight win on the road. They would allow the first goal with under a minute to play in the first period from Kyle Joly. From the second period until the end of the game, the Golden Knights were able to score four unanswered goals.

Jack Haymes would extend his point streak to 10 games after collecting 2 G / 1 A. He would get the tying goal 43 seconds into the second period. Keon Trocolli-Roik would tip in Adam Watson’s shot from the point which turned out to be the game winner coming on the power play.

Ottawa West would add two more goals from Michael Gallivan in the third along with an empty net goal from Jack Haymes after Sean Kearns hit the side of the net on a potential empty net goal. Kearns does get two assists in the game as he also extended his point streak to 10 games.

William McEvoy got the start in net and made 21 saves for his 8th win of the season and is second in the league in Goals Against Average (1.98). McEvoy is also 4th in the league in Save Percentage (.929). The Golden Knights out-shot Alexandria 42-22.
