Porter Robertson’s hockey journey began at the age of three, inspired by his dad and grandfather, both of whom played the game. From the start, Robertson gravitated towards goaltending, a position he has embraced since his second year on the ice.

Growing up, Robertson played for the Arnprior Packers, then for the Ottawa Valley Aces AA. He returned to the Packers’ Junior B side before being traded to the Ottawa West Golden Knights three seasons ago, since which he has been a cornerstone in the team’s defence.

Robertson’s pre-game routine is all about focus and sharpening his reflexes. He spends time throwing a ball against a wall to enhance his hand-eye coordination and mentally prepares to “stop the puck and give the team a chance to win.”

As a goalie, Robertson sees himself as the last line of defence, bringing energy and positivity to the team. Whether on the ice or the bench, he motivates teammates and helps maintain a strong team dynamic.

Robertson describes himself as a hybrid goalie, but more towards a butterfly style. Known for his quickness, he is always working on his speed, strength, and tracking. His personal goal for the season is to keep his goals-against average below three and take as many wins as possible for the Golden Knights.

Aside from hockey, he keeps active with fishing, skiing, working out, and dirt biking. He also loves to cook and be outdoors.

Growing up, he idolized Carey Price, the legendary goalie of the Montreal Canadiens, and his family was a big fan of the Canadiens. He does not have aspirations of playing professional hockey anymore but does look forward to playing more recreationally with friends in the future.

For Robertson, the best part of playing for the Ottawa West Golden Knights is the camaraderie with his teammates and just the pure enjoyment of being on the ice. His positive attitude and dedication make him a vital asset to the team both on and off the ice.
