RECAP | OTTAWA WEST 5, ATHENS 1

Arnprior, Ontario – The Ottawa West Golden Knights swept the CCHL2 Showcase with a 5-1 victory over the Athens Aeros on Sunday morning at the Nick Smith Arena.

This matchup marked the second time in the last two years that Athens and Ottawa West met at the CCHL2 Showcase. Last year, Ottawa West walked their way to a 4-2 win against Athens.

The Golden Knights would lead 2-0 early on in the first period. Noah Haymes scored his first of the year and Marco Haw picked up his second of the year.

They would carry the lead in to the 3rd period. Just 35 seconds into the final frame Max Bush fired a wrist shot through Hanspiker from the slot off a feed from Michael Gallivan for the 1st shorthanded goal of year to make it 3-0.

The Aeros Matt Berry would get on the board to take away Bown’s shutout. Haw would put the game away on an empty netter to seal it. Then they would score one more goal on the Power-Play from Gallivan.

Marco Haw picked up 2 goals while Michael Gallivan had 1G, 1A in the win. Mitchell Bown picked up his first career win in the CCHL2 with 22 saves on 21 shots.

Next game goes Thursday night for the Home Opener when the Golden Knights take on the Alexandria Glens. Puck drop scheduled for 7:15pm.
