TRANSACTION: OTTAWA WEST ACQUIRES FLEMING AND TAILLEFER FROM OJC

Ottawa, Ontario – The Ottawa West Golden Knights announced
Wednesday afternoon that they have acquired (’99) forward Kyle Fleming and (’00) forward Tristan Taillefer from the Ottawa Canadians in exchange for (’97) defenseman Matt Cowley and (’98) forward Justin Turner.

Fleming, 18, is in his first season of Junior Hockey after scoring 13 goals and 22 points with the OJS Midget AAA program last season. The Ottawa, Ontario native has 19 points (9G/10A) with the Jr. Canadians this year.

Taillefer, 17, recorded 42 points (23G/19A) in 43 games with the Gloucester Rangers Midget AAA program last season. The Orleans, Ontario native has posted 25 points (12G/13A) in 30 games with the Jr. Canadians this year.

He was also traded from the Rockland Nationals to the Navan Grads to complete an earlier trade late last night. Taillefer has 19 games of CCHL Tier 1 experience after splitting time between Rockland and Ottawa this season.

“Both of these kids are smart, young and great two-way hockey players” said assistant coach, Kevin Groulx on the acquisitions. “They have the willingness to compete and this is a great move for the organization for the short and long-term”.

Going to the Ottawa Canadians are two players that spent the last three seasons with the Ottawa West Golden Knights organization.

Cowley, 20, was the Golden Knights captain and posted 30 points over 98 games with Ottawa West during parts of three seasons. The Ottawa, Ontario native was mostly known for his toughness and gritty defensive style. His biggest moment with the Golden Knights organization came in the playoffs last year when he scored the game winning goal against Clarence in game five.

Turner, 19, was named an assistant captain this season and scored 86 points over 114 games, during parts of three seasons with Ottawa West. The Nepean, Ontario native started his career with the Golden Knights as a 17 year old, playing as a penalty killer and was known for his excellent defensive play.

The Ottawa West Golden Knights organization are happy to welcome Kyle and Tristan to the team and wish Matt and Justin all the best with their new team.
