OTTAWA WEST ACQUIRES D-MAN, SAM WILSON

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TRANSACTION: OTTAWA WEST ACQUIRES WILSON FROM EMBRUN

November 21, 2017

Ottawa, Ont – The Ottawa West Golden Knights have acquired ’98-born defenseman Sam Wilson from the Embrun Panthers in exchange for ’98-born defenseman Andre Giordano.

Wilson – a native of Ottawa, Ont. – had 10 points (3G/7A) in 27 games as a member of the Panthers. Prior to this season, Wilson appeared in 41 games with the Metcalfe Jets, scoring a total of 19 points (6G/13A) in his first full season of junior hockey.

The 6’1, 217 pound D-man previously played for the Ottawa Jr. Senators Midget AAA program in 2016, where he had six assists in 46 games.

“We’re very happy to have Sam. He’s a defenseman that skates and moves the puck very well,” said Craig Smith, general manager of the Golden Knights. “He also plays physical and will add offence to our back end.”

Giordano – also an Ottawa, Ont. native – spent parts of the last three seasons with the Ottawa West Golden Knights organization.

Last season, he set career highs in points (18) and goals (4) before scoring just four points in 11 playoff games last year. The Golden Knights wish Andre the best of luck with his new team in Embrun.

Ottawa West plays their next game this Thursday at 7:15 p.m. at the Barbara Ann Scott arena.
