Haymes brothers took control as Ottawa West gets their second shutout victory

Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa West Golden Knights shutout the Athens Aeros 4-0 on Thursday night inside the Barbara Ann Scott Arena during Halloween night.

Nicholai Ponomarev collects his first career CCHL2 goal and his first career game winner back in the first period. He started the season by tallying five assists in the first 12 games before scoring his first goal. Noah Haymes scores twice and Jack Haymes added three assists for the second consecutive game.

N. Haymes has tallied five goals during his three game goal streak and J. Haymes with seven assists while on a three game point streak. Those two combined for six points on the night.

Sean Kearns also got on the scoresheet with 1 G / 1 A. He is also the 10th player out of all CCHL Tier 2 players to hit 10 goals this season. Athens hasn’t scored a goal in the last three games and have been held scoreless for 172:53 in their last four games.

William McEvoy also made 18 saves for his second shutout with the Golden Knights. He now leads the league with a 1.81 GAA. On the other end, Matthew Maas was terrific between the pipes for Athens and made 34 saves. Ottawa West outshot Athens 38-18.

Next game for the Ottawa West Golden Knights goes tonight at the Westport Community Arena when the take on the Rideaus in a big time matchup. The last time these teams met, Westport was able to walk away with a 5-4 win. You can tune into tonight’s game on Hockey TV.
