Marco Peloso began his hockey journey at the age of five, inspired by his father’s love for the sport. Growing up in Ottawa, he balanced soccer and hockey until he committed to hockey full-time. Although his father didn’t play organized hockey due to time constraints, he instilled a passion for the game in Marco, who has since developed a deep connection to the sport.
Currently in his third year at Carleton University, Marco is studying Law with a concentration in business. Balancing academics and athletics, he embraces the challenges of both realms.
Marco’s hockey career saw him playing for the Nepean Raiders during his formative years before moving to Carleton Place Jr Canadians for his first year of junior hockey. For the last three years, he has been a pivotal part of the Ottawa West Golden Knights, contributing both on and off the ice.
Known for his offensive style, Marco, a defenceman draws inspiration from former Ottawa Senators player Erik Karlsson, aiming to play a similarly aggressive and dynamic game. While he enjoys creating opportunities for his teammates and setting them up for goals, he is also dedicated to maintaining a solid defensive presence on the ice. Marco prides himself on being physical and protective of his teammates, contributing to the team’s overall strategy.
One of Marco’s proudest moments in hockey came when his double-A team won the prestigious Silver Stick tournament, marking a significant achievement in his early career.
Marco faced a significant health challenge last summer with rhabdomyolysis, resulting from overexertion during training. This experience taught him the importance of hydration and has made him more vigilant about his physical health.
Marco’s personal goal for the current season aligns with the team’s aspirations to win the championship. He believes the Golden Knights have a strong and deep roster, fostering optimism for their success.
As assistant captain, Marco actively contributes to the positive dynamics of the team, fostering a fun and inclusive atmosphere. He values the camaraderie among teammates and enjoys spending time with them both on and off the ice.
Outside of hockey, Marco enjoys playing soccer, ping pong, and hanging out with friends. He emphasizes the importance of staying active and maintaining friendships as part of his lifestyle.
While Marco intends to step back from competitive play after this season, he is keen to pursue coaching. He has already begun by helping his younger brother’s hockey team, hoping to pass on his knowledge and love for the game to the next generation.
Marco Peloso is a dedicated player and leader for the Ottawa West Golden Knights. With a strong commitment to both his sport and academics, he is a role model for younger players and an asset to his team. His journey from a young athlete to an assistant captain exemplifies his passion for hockey and his desire to contribute to the sport beyond his playing days.
