Golden Knights blowout Arnprior 9-1 to start the 2019-20 season

Ottawa, Ontario – The Ottawa West Golden Knights (1-0) played their first regular season game against the Arnprior Packers (0-1) and come out with a 9-1 win at the Barbara Ann Scott Arena last week on Thursday night.

The Golden Knights were leading 2-1 heading into the second period and were able to score seven unanswered goals between the start of the 2nd period until the end of the game. The line of Michael Gallivan (1 G / 1 A), Stef Mellios (1 G / 3 A) and Ryan Carroll (2 G / 2 A) combined for 10 points on the night.

Jack Haymes and Keon Trocolli-Roik each scored two goals in their Golden Knights debut.

“The first goal was just getting the puck to the net, I went post and in. The second goal was a good pass by my line-mate (Nicholai Ponomarev), got the puck in the slot and roof it”, said Keon Trocolli-Roik on his first two goals in CCHL Tier 2.

Geronimo Whiteduck also scored his first of the season coming on the power play after a long wrist shot coming from the mid-point and beating Brayden Prince on the blocker side. Overall, the Golden Knights power play was 2-for-8 in their first game.

“I think there is room for improvement on it. There was a nine minute power play, so it would have been nice to pot a couple more on that. But overall, it wasn’t too bad for the first game, haven’t really practice it too much so I think we can get that going”, said Roik.

The Golden Knights also went 6-for-6 on the penalty kill and outshot the Packers 37-27 in the game. Brent Pledge-Dickson made 26 saves on 27 shots in his Golden Knights debut.

Next game goes Thursday night inside the Barbara Ann Scott Arena when they take on the Renfrew Timberwolves at 7:20pm. You can catch the game on mixlr.com/owgkradio and hockey tv.
