James Davidson’s love for hockey began at four years old when he first picked up a stick and puck with his dad. Growing up in an extremely hockey-rooted family, Davidson was driven by his siblings, who played the sport, to make the game a central part of his life.
Davidson’s hockey career began in OMHA, just outside of Toronto, playing AAA hockey. Those were the formative years that instilled in him a disciplined way of approaching the game. As a defenseman for the Ottawa West Golden Knights today, he brings a calm demeanor and strategic mind to the ice, embracing his role of slowing down the game and maintaining control.
Currently pursuing a degree in electrical engineering, Davidson admits that balancing university studies with the demands of competitive hockey is a challenge. He manages to juggle conflicting schedules by being diligent with time management and committed to both arenas.
Pre-game rituals for Davidson are simple, yet effective. He listens to music and takes a few moments to visualize his ideal performance. This mental preparation helps him focus and execute his game plan with precision. His calm and methodical approach to the game is what sets him apart as a defenseman.
As a defenseman, Davidson likes to have a clear view of the ice to control the pace of the game and make plays. A lot of his favorite moments on the ice include playoff games where the stakes are high and mental toughness and focus are crucial. His inspiration is NHL star Cale Makar, who is changing the game in so many innovative ways.
One of his favorite things about playing for the Ottawa West Golden Knights is the camaraderie within the team. He enjoys the friendships he has made and the supportive atmosphere in the dressing room. Davidson’ selfless approach to hockey can be demonstrated through his personal goals this season–he’s committed to contributing to the success of his team in whatever role he is given.
Outside of hockey, some of the things he enjoys in his free time include video games and hanging out with friends. He’ll see where hockey takes him but for now, his main priorities are his academic and professional career in electrical engineering.
Talent, drive, and humility all combine in Davidson to make him a valuable asset to the Ottawa West Golden Knights.
