Justin Murdoch, right winger and co-captain for the Ottawa West Golden Knights, started playing hockey at the young age of three. Now twenty years old, he is a force to be reckoned with and a pivotal player to the Ottawa West Golden Knights.

Born in Colborne, ON, Murdoch has always been on the ice. Raised with many hockey influences, Murdoch wears jersey number nine, just like his dad, who played a significant role in introducing him to the sport. Murdoch draws inspiration from Toronto Maple Leafs assistant captain William Nylander. They share a similar gameplay style, bringing speed, quick playmaking decisions, and consistent scoring to the team.

Murdoch’s hockey career started with the Brighton Braves (EMOHL). He then went on to play with the Quinte Red Devils (OMHA) and the Ottawa Junior Senators (CJHL), finally landing with the Ottawa West Golden Knights (EOJHL).

“Well, I’m one of the older guys, so maybe just on ice knowledge and just smarts of the game,” said Murdoch, when asked about the strengths he brings to the team.

A student at the University of Ottawa studying Finance, Murdoch perfectly balances being both a student and an athlete. Off the ice, he enjoys playing volleyball to stay active and channel his competitive energy. When warming up for games, Murdoch gets pumped up by listening to Sabrina Carpenter. “We’ve been listening to a lot of Sabrina Carpenter; that’s been our game hype song—maybe some good graces.” said Murdoch.

“The best part of the team is the guys. I’ve been here two years, and everyone is just so good; it’s a great community.” His positive attitude, hockey knowledge, and dedication to hockey make him a crucial asset to the Ottawa West Golden Knights.
