From the moment he first stepped on the ice as a toddler, hockey has been an integral part of Cooper Moore’s life. Coming from a family deeply rooted in the sport, it was only natural for him to follow in their footsteps. His siblings and father all played, making the transition into organized hockey at age four an easy decision.
Now in his first season with Ottawa West Golden Knights, he is not only focused on making an impact on the ice but also navigating the challenges of being a university student. Studying environmental engineering at Carleton University, he has to carefully balance the demands of academics and hockey, ensuring he stays on top of both commitments.
On game days, preparation is key. Keeping a relaxed mindset, stretching to prevent injuries and spending time with teammates are all part of his routine. Music also plays a role in setting the right mood before stepping onto the ice.
His hockey journey has taken him through various leagues and levels of competition. He previously played AAA in the Great North Midget League before moving on to junior hockey in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL). With years of experience behind him, he sees himself as a leader on the team, someone the younger players can look up to both on and off the ice. Creating a positive atmosphere in the locker room and being a strong presence during games are aspects of his role that he takes pride in.
As the season progresses, he believes that the Knights have the potential to go far. Having fallen short of a championship title last season, winning remains a personal goal that continues to motivate him.
Beyond hockey, he has a love for the outdoors, spending his summers fishing and golfing. These activities provide a break from the fast-paced world of hockey while keeping him active and engaged.
Looking ahead, he remains open to the possibilities that hockey may bring. While he once considered the idea of stepping away from competitive play, the sport has been such a defining part of his life that he wants to see how far he can take it. For now, his focus remains on making the most of the season, striving for success with his team and embracing every challenge that comes his way.
