Ottawa West Golden Knights right defenseman, Joel Mullen, has been on the ice since he was around three or four.

Mullen is 20 now, and is great at making smart break-out passes, being physical, and holds a high hockey IQ.

Stittsville, Ontario is where Mullen is from, and it is where he started playing hockey.

#19 is stitched on Mullen’s jersey. He didn’t have a lot of choice in numbers when he got traded here in December, and Mullen used to wear 19 when he was younger, so he decided to go with that.

Mullen is a fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Ottawa Senators, but he draws inspiration from Colorado Avalanche defenseman, Cale Makar. Mullen and Makar are both good skaters, strong defensemen, and are great at breaking-out plays.

The Carleton Place Canadians, and the Richmond Royals were Mullen’s previous teams, before he came to the Ottawa West Golden Knights.

The Golden Knights are made up of strong players, and Mullen brings strengths to the team.

“I think I’m able to slow the play down, and make good break-out passes,” Mullen said. “Just get the guys going up the ice quick.”

When Mullen isn’t playing hockey, he attends Algonquin College to study Police Foundations, works out at the gym, and plays NHL26.

Mullen’s pre-game routine consists of doing the same warm-up every game, taping his stick, and eating Subway.

The guys on the team are Mullen’s favourite thing about playing for the Golden Knights.

Mullen’s strong defensive presence, hockey knowledge, and ability to slow down the play, makes him an important player for the Ottawa West Golden Knights.
