The week before the holiday break was a big week, and the Ottawa West Golden Knights worked hard throughout it.
The Golden Knights started the week off by taking on the Ottawa Junior Canadians, on Thursday night, at the Barbara Ann Scott Arena. The Golden Knights fought hard, and won their fourth game in a row, with a score of 4-2.
William McCulligh opened the scoring for the Knights, with a quick snipe on the powerplay.
Samuel Stano nailed his first of the season, shortly after. His goal put the Golden Knights up 2-0, heading into the second period.
At the start of the second period, Justin Murdoch hit the back of the net.
Things got chippy as the period went on, but the boys stayed strong, and kept working hard, even as the score became 3-1.
The game remained feisty into the third, but the Golden Knights never gave up their lead.
Murdoch scored his second of the game on the Canadians’ empty net, to seal the deal 4-2 for the boys.
Carter Overhoff was in net, and he fought hard in net, making big saves to help keep the Knights going.
“After the first period, they had a couple of big scoring chances, and I made the saves,” Overhoff said. “Which gave me confidence throughout the rest of the game.”
No matter the traffic or chaos in front of the net, Overhoff tracked the puck, and made the save.
“Just gotta stay active. I practice tracking the puck a lot,” Overhoff said. “But yeah, just gotta be active, and focus.”
It was a big win on Thursday. The whole team played well, and worked hard.
Saturday the 20th, marked the final game day for the Golden Knights, before the holiday break. It was a doozy of a game, and a close one.
The Knights unfortunately fell short 4-3 in overtime, but they worked hard, which resulted in glimmers throughout the game. Thomas Dickey nailed one for the boys, four minutes into the first. Owen Bird and Murdoch both hit the back of the net in the second. Dustin Riff held his own in between the pipes, making 34 saves for the Golden Knights.
It was a tough loss to end it, but the Ottawa West Golden Knights worked hard both games, which overall resulted in a great week.
