The Ottawa West Golden Knights faced the Glengarry Brigade, on Thursday night, at the Barbara Ann Scott Arena. It was a tough 4-2 loss, but a nail-biter, and a close one, with glimmers throughout the game.
The Golden Knights fought hard, getting chances during the first period, but particularly came out flying in the second.
The Glengarry Brigade scored a minute into the second, but the Knights responded quickly, squeaking one through into the back of the net, with a goal from Marcus Mazzuca. His goal put the boys within one.
Midway through the second, Cooper Moore nailed the tying goal for the Golden Knights.
“Coach wants me to get in front of the net,” Moore said. “And when we got the shot on net, I managed to get it in on the rebound.”
The pace of the game for the Knights got faster in the second period, which helped them stay strong, and keep the score tied at 2-2, heading into the third.
“We hadn’t played in a few days, so going into the first period, I think we were a little slow,” Moore said. “But we got our feet under us going into the second, and that helped us with chances.”
The boys did get their feet under them, and that contributed to how hard they fought, and how they remained strong, in such a close game.
Halfway through the third, it got pretty chippy, but the Knights remained calm, which resulted in a six minute powerplay. The boys had many chances, with good looks from William McCulligh, Thomas Dickey, and Antonio Zito on the powerplay, but the score still remained tied.
Unfortunately, the Brigade got two with only a couple minutes left in the third period, to win it.
However, it was a close one, and the Knights fought hard, no matter the end result.
The Golden Knights looked ahead to the future, though. They put the past behind them, dominating 4-0 in a game against the Embrun Panthers.
Dickey scored the opening goal, followed by Moore, Samuel Stano, and McCulligh. Carter Overhoff stayed strong in net, which earned him his second shutout this season. Big game for the Knights.
It was a tough start to the week, but it had a shining end, as the Ottawa West Golden Knights continue to press forward, towards their future.
